How Augusta Gained a Professional Ballet School
In 1962 the Board of Directors of the Augusta Ballet Company
decided they wanted more than a
mere dancing school...they wanted something of real quality.
They got exactly that when they hired Ron Colton of Balanchine's
famed New York City Ballet. Colton developed a program of
professional dance instruction unheard of in this part of
the country. Many of his students have moved on to dance
with companies all over the world.
Our faculty members are experienced professionals, trained
not only as performing artists, but also as teachers. They
have a knowledge and understanding of the science which
governs classical ballet as well as a careful regard for
the principles of anatomy. There is concern for the development
of the individual student to his or her fullest potential
physically, mentally, and artistically. Whether the student
who studies here becomes a professional dancer or a knowledgeable
dance enthusiast, the experience at the Augusta Ballet will
be a gratifying part of life.
Our students at the school are taught the etiquette, tradition,
and standards of deportment which are an intrinsic element
of dance discipline. With Augusta Ballet training, a student
can attend a class anywhere in the world and feel confident
and comfortable. We teach a concentrated approach to work
and study which will be valuable in any endeavor.
